Russian President Vladimir, denouncing the rebellion led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner group and a prominent mercenary tycoon, described it as a betrayal and vowed to take action against those responsible.

The situation in Rostov-on-Don, a city in southern Russia, remains tense as Prigozhin’s armed uprising shows no signs of abating. Prigozhin, in response to Putin’s televised address, contradicted the president’s accusation of treason in an audio message, claiming that Putin’s assessment was deeply mistaken.

Presently, Yevgeny Prigozhin has confirmed his presence in Rostov-on-Don, situated near the border with Ukraine, asserting that his forces have gained control over military installations and the local airfield.

He issued a threat to blockade Rostov and advance towards Moscow unless the Russian Defense Minister and top general agree to meet him in the city. Furthermore, the Wagner group declared that they have also taken control of Russian military facilities in Voronezh, a city located in southwestern Russia.

The conflict between Moscow’s military leadership and Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the private mercenary group Wagner, escalated into an open rebellion on Saturday. Prigozhin accused Russia’s military authorities of inflicting substantial casualties on his mercenary forces in an attack on their camp and vowed to retaliate.

As a result, security forces have been mobilized across western Russia, with regional governors urging residents to refrain from using the roads. Additionally, a state of “counterterrorist operation regime” has been declared in Moscow.
