Fort Bragg officially became Fort Liberty Friday in a ceremony with remarks from Lt. Gen. Chris Donahue, XVIII Airborne Corps commanding general. In a significant move, one of the world’s largest military installations, Fort Bragg in North Carolina, renamed as Fort Liberty by the US Army.

Fort Bragg was among the nine bases initially suggested for renaming by a congressional commission. While the others are being or expected to be renamed after notable individuals, Fort Liberty will stand as the sole facility named after a principle.
