Wagner mercenary group made a firm commitment to topple Russia’s military leadership, whom he accused of targeting his fighters with airstrikes. Meanwhile, the country’s prosecutor general revealed that an investigation into Yevgeny Prigozhin for “armed rebellion” was underway.
Wagner chief vows to topple Russian military leaders
In an audio message, the 62-year-old Prigozhin declared, “We are moving forward, and we will go to the very end.” He presented the most daring challenge to President Vladimir Putin since the initiation of the offensive in Ukraine last year. Asserting his determination, he added, “We will eliminate anything that obstructs our path.”
Prigozhin claimed that his forces had successfully brought down a Russian military helicopter.
Later on, Prigozhin claimed that his forces had successfully brought down a Russian military helicopter. He alleged, “A helicopter has just fired upon a civilian convoy. It has been shot down by units of PMC Wagner.” The veracity of this claim could not be independently confirmed by AFP, and no specific evidence was provided by Prigozhin.
Earlier, Prigozhin had stated that his forces, who have played a leading role in Russia’s offensive, had entered the southern Russian region of Rostov. However, he did not offer any substantiation for his statement, and AFP was unable to verify his assertions.
According to TASS news agency, the Kremlin has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin will deliver a televised address in the near future.
